En esta entrada voy a explicar como realizar una paleta húmeda, una herramienta que resulta casi imprescindible para realizar cómodamente nuestros trabajos de pintura, ya que permite que esta tarde mucho más en secarse.

In this post I will explain how to make a wet palette, a very useful tool that allow the paint to stay wet a long time, making paint works easier.
Introducción/Introduction
Un paleta húmeda es, en efecto, una paleta dónde depositar la pintura y hacer mezclas, pero que, mediante una base de material absorbente empapado en agua mantendrá la pintura fresca durante mucho más tiempo.
Personalmente, yo no conocí esta herramienta hasta hace poco, a pesar de llevar muchos años en el mundillo, y ahora es, para mi, esencial.
A wet palette is, in fact, a palette where you can put the paint and do the mixtures, but it have a base of absorbent material soaked in water which maintains the paint wet during much more time.
Personally, I did not know this tool until recently, despite I have been many years in the hobby, and now it is essential for me.

Materiales/Materials
Los materiales necesarios para hacer una paleta húmeda son:
The materials that you will need are:
- Un recipiente: este debe tener cierta profundidad para albergar el material absorbente. Un plato de plástico podría valer aunque recomiendo algo más rígido ya que el agua pesa y no queremos que la paleta se doble con facilidad.
- A container: it must have enough size to harbor the absorbing material. A plastic plate can do de job but I'd rather something more rigid because the water can bend the palette if it is not hard enough.
- Material absorbente: nos valdría algodón, esponja o incluso papel de cocina. En mi caso he utilizado algodón.
- Absorbing material: you can use cotton, sponge o even paper towels. I have used cotton.
- Material transpirable: debe permitir la evaporación a través de él. Puede valer simplemente un folio o papel de horno. Yo he utilizado este último.
- Breathable material: it must permit the evaporation across it. You can use a normal paper or baking paper. I have used the baking paper.
Montaje/Assembly
- Rellenamos la superficie de nuestro recipiente con el material absorbente.
- We fill the container with the absorbing material.
- Llenamos de agua hasta que el material absorbente quede totalmente empapado, pero sin que llegue a haber una capa de agua por encima. Lo ideal sería que al apretarlo rezumara. A continuación yo he añadido papel de cocina para evitar que resbale después el papel de horno.
- We fill the container with water until the absorbing material is completely saturated, trying the water not to rise above the cotton. The ideal is that it releases some water when you press it. Furthermore, I added paper towels to prevent the baking paper from sliding.
- Colocamos el papel de horno y ya está lista la paleta dónde la pintura se mantendrá fresca por mucho más tiempo.
- We place the baking paper finishing our wet palette where the paint will stay fresh much more time.
Recordad que tendréis que rellenar de agua de vez en cuando para compensar la evaporación. Cuando ocupéis toda la paleta sólo tenéis que cambiar el papel de horno y como nueva.
Algunos trucos: puedes hacer formas en el material absorbente a modo de huecos para la pintura y, si utilizas agua fría aún aguantará más la pintura. Y aquí tenéis un par de enlaces en los que me he basado para hacer este tutorial:

Remember that you will have to change the water from time to time when it evaporates. When you fill all the palette with paint you only have to change the baking paper and start brand new.
Some tricks: you can do some forms in the absorbing material to do some cavitys for the paint, and, if you use cold water, the paint will stay wet further. Here there are some sources that I used for this tutorial (in Spanish):
